Our Belief
In our collective we work, we have sat with elders who apologized on their deathbeds needing cared, who lowered their eyes in shame as their grandchildren bathed and fed them. Yet we have also known the sacred truth of a small child at 2 AM, reaching without hesitation, unafraid to say: I need you.
The Death Education Project understands our cohort as elders in training. Elderhood is a practiced way of being: a willingness to stay with endings and to relinquish the illusion that dignity depends on independence. In this surrender, dependence becomes a sacred rite of passage. Dignity is then affirmed in the act of witnessing and caring for one another.
